ATP Finals betting is yes to begin because we have no odds, but a clear favorite has already emerged. As you might have guessed, it’s Novak Djokovic. However, this isn’t going to be a walk in the park for the Serb, and there are lots of other exciting bets to make.
Let’s check the format first, though, because it’s different than any other tennis tournament on the ATP Tour.
2022 ATP Finals Format and Lineup
The Nitto ATP Finals are often dubbed the ‘Fifth Grand Slam,’ and they’re about to kick off in Turin, Italy, at the Pala Alpitour. The action begins on November 14 and will continue until November 21.
This is the final event of the year on the ATP Tour. The seven top-ranked players automatically qualify, and the eighth spot is reserved for a Grand Slam winner ranked 8th-20th in the ATP Rankings.
The eight players will be split into two groups of four. Everyone will play everyone else in their group, and when the dust settles, the top two in each group will proceed to the semi-finals.
In the group stages, ties are settled with head-to-head matches. If three players tie, other criteria like the highest percentage of sets won, the highest percentage of games won, and the highest rank at the start of the tournament decide it.
It’s important to note that the ATP Finals are the only big tennis tournament you can win despite losing a match. That leaves some room for error in the group stages and creates an interesting dynamic.
The other important detail is the format of the matches. They are in the best-of-three nowadays, so they are more like a Masters event than a Grand Slam.
Top Favorites for the 2022 ATP Finals
The world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz is out of action due to injury, so that opens the door to the rest of the field.
It’s always hard to determine the main favorites for the ATP Finals, but I expect a lot from two players in 2022.
He’s never won the tournament, and his last final came in 2013, so I don’t expect wonders.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic is always a threat in any given tournament, especially on hard courts. However, he hasn’t won the ATP Finals since 2015, so this isn’t necessarily his best tournament in terms of past form.
Looking at his recent form, Djokovic put on dominant performances in both Tel Aviv and Astana, Kazakhstan. He also played well in the Paris Masters, even if Holger Rune defeated him in the final.
The former world number 1 will be eager to prove himself once again after a tough year, so I won’t be surprised if Djokovic wins the ATP Finals.
Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev is currently ranked third in the world by the ATP, so his qualification for the finals was automatic.
Looking at Medvedev’s recent form, he went home early in the Paris Masters after Aussie Alex di Minaur beat him in the round of 32. However, he won the Vienna Open in October and made it to the semi-final in Astana, where he lost to Djokovic.
Medvedev usually thrives in the second part of the year, and he reached the final in 2021, so I expect another strong run.
ATP Finals 2022 Top Sleepers
I’ve given you my rundown of the ATP Finals favorites, but any single contestant can win the tournament. Ignoring the dark horses would be foolish, and you could lose money.
That’s why you should consider the following sleepers.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
The Greek prodigy Stefanos Tsitsipas is always a worthy competitor. He made it to the semis in Paris, where he lost to Djokovic, got to the final of the Stockholm Open in October, and lost to Djokovic in the final in Astana earlier in the same month.
Tsitsipas has been a step behind the best in the world lately, and it’s not a very big step. If he can find another gear in the ATP Finals, I can definitely see him as the champion.
Andrey Rublev
Rublev has won 12 ATP Tour singles titles already at the age of 25, so he’s not a player you should dismiss. Rublev can tussle with the best of them when he’s on form.
The early exits in the most recent tournaments are actually a positive for his ATP Finals changes. The Russian had the time to rest and prepare, so he could be much better in Turin.
Felix Auger-Aliassime
You simply can’t ignore Felix Auger-Aliassime based on his current form. Just look at the Canadian’s results in the last four tournaments before the ATP Finals.

It’s a remarkable run that features wins over players like Frances Tiafoe, Holger Rune, Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, and Brandon Nakashima.
Auger-Aliassime is flying right now, and I won’t be shocked if he wins the ATP Finals 2022.
2022 ATP Finals Prediction
I honestly can’t see anyone beating Djokovic in this lineup, and I expect him to emerge victorious in the 2022 ATP Finals.
I know this is the obvious bet, but the legendary Serbian will be hungry after a shaky year. He is unplayable on hard courts when he’s anywhere close to his best, so I simply have to go with Djokovic here.
I would closely monitor Auger-Aliassime as well because the Canadian has hit another level recently.
