Once in a while, I get to review a site that is legendary in the industry. Sometimes, a site has become legendary for the wrong reasons; this is not the case with this review of Ladbrokes. The Ladbrokes name has been synonymous with gambling for well over 100 years in England, and with their entry into the online gaming market, the company hoped to create a more global brand.

Did they succeed?

I’ll give the site a thorough once-over so you can get an honest review and recommendation at the end of this page.

About Ladbrokes

Ladbrokes is one of the most well-known brands in the history of gambling in the UK, with betting shops that date back to the 1800s. As for the online portion of their operation, the betting site has been available for use since 2000, with many additions to the platform along the way.

Ladbrokes is owned and operated by Ladbrokes Coral PLC, a publicly-traded company on the London Stock Exchange. This is excellent news for players, as all the firm’s financials have to be reported to shareholders. Ladbrokes and Coral merged in 2015 to take advantage of economies of scale, and as a result, the Gala Casino is also operated by this group.

The company has two gaming licenses; they come from the UK Gambling Commission and the Gibraltar Gaming Authority. This allows the company to take players from the UK while also being able to take advantage of some tax shelters offered by the UK-owned jurisdiction of Gibraltar.

Who Can Play at Ladbrokes?

Being one of the largest land-based gambling operations in the world, Ladbrokes is clearly on the radar of every regulatory group. With that in mind, and to maintain its online gaming licenses, there is a stringent list of countries that are not allowed to play here for real money. Unfortunately for those living in the U.S., this includes you; even though you see the Ladbrokes name plastered on most European sports you watch in the States, you cannot head to that site to make a wager.

Here is the full list of the other countries that are not allowed to play at Ladbrokes:

  • American Samoa
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • China
  • France
  • Greece
  • Hong Kong
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Slovenia
  • South Africa
  • Turkey
  • United States
  • S. Virgin Islands
  • S. Minor Outlying Islands
  • Hungary
  • Norway
  • Switzerland
  • Finland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Albania
  • Armenia
  • Belarus
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Japan
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Slovakia
  • South Korea
  • Canada
  • Ukraine
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Cyprus

Software Suppliers

It will come as no surprise that given the company launched their online sports business in 200, they ended up building their own platform for the sportsbook portion of the site. Thankfully, they chose to work with software partners for their casino and poker products, and at the top of that list is Playtech. The industry heavyweight provides games for the casino as well as the poker software; you will also find content from the following providers sprinkled across the site:

  • Ash Gaming
  • Evolution Gaming,
  • IGT
  • Net Entertainment
  • Realistic Games
  • NextGen
  • WMS
  • Barcrest
  • Quickspin
  • Push Gaming
  • Endemol Games
  • Novomatic
  • Games Warehouse
  • Genesis Gaming
  • Blueprint Gaming
  • Mazooma
  • GW Games
  • CORE Gaming
  • SG Interactive
  • Bally Technologies

With this many providers, you can expect to find hundreds of titles that feature very different graphics, which is excellent news for players who tend to find their experience goes stale when playing games that all look similar.

The Ladbrokes offering is available through instant play on both PC and mobile browsers, and in particular jurisdictions, you will find a bespoke app for both sports and casino available in your mobile provider’s app store.

The Good Stuff

Mulit-vertical Platform

I am always touting the value of having multiple verticals on the same platform. Having a one-wallet solution for poker, casino, and sports (and lottery at Ladbrokes) gives you the ability to move from one game to another without having to change sites or make multiple deposits.

Millions in Progressive Jackpots

You have heard me say this before, but the allure of making one spin of the reels and changing your life forever is too much to walk away from. At Ladbrokes, you can choose from 21 different jackpot games, including the huge Jackpot Giant. This game, Playtech’s biggest, has a jackpot that currently sits just below USD 10,000,000. DO yourself a favor and get to that game as soon as possible before the jackpot is won by someone else!

The Bad Stuff

Limited Customer Service Hours

I am shocked that a company that is this advanced on so many levels doesn’t offer 24/7 customer support. The timing for the support team is definitely UK-focused, which I understand but as someone who doesn’t play in that time zone, I am frustrated that there isn’t an agent available when I need help all day.

No Esports Betting

I am stunned by this one; esports are growing in popularity across the globe and betting on these video game matches is a great entry point for millennials into the online gambling space. Perhaps I am missing something, but I would think Ladbrokes would want to be at the forefront of wagering on esports.

Sportsbook

I will start my review with the Ladbrokes sportsbook, seeing as this is their claim to fame and what they have been involved in for the longest time. Not surprisingly, the sports section is bursting with possible bets to make, including being able to make all the standard bet types. If you are looking for a quick snapshot of what you can bet on, here is a list of the sports they show in their lobby:

  • American Football
  • Aussie Rules
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • Football
  • Formula 1
  • Gaelic Football
  • Golf
  • Greyhound Racing
  • Handball
  • Horse Racing
  • Hurling
  • Ice Hockey
  • Motor Cycling
  • Motor Sports
  • Movies
  • Politics
  • Royal Specials
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Specials
  • Speedway
  • TV Specials
  • Tennis
  • UFC/MMA
  • Virtual Sports
  • Volleyball

Many of these sports are also available for live, in-game betting. The site provides links to streaming of games from around the world, and with the click of a button on your phone or PC, you can make a wager on who is going to score next along with a whole host of other options.

If real sports don’t do it for you, have no fear; the company has a full section dedicated to Virtual Sports. These computer-generated matches feature the teams you know and love, but only take about 5 minutes to complete so you can make your wagers much faster than waiting out a traditional soccer match.

The sportsbook has its own bespoke app which offers all the same bet options as the full site, meaning there is no reason to miss out on a bet anywhere!

Finally, the company has set up a betting exchange, similar to the one run by Betfair. If you have never used a betting exchange, it is pretty straightforward. In an exchange format, anyone can create odds for a match (which are different than the actual odds) and post the bet waiting for someone to accept it. The site takes their commission, and the bet is paid out just like it would if it was a bet versus the house.

Poker

Ladbrokes Poker is part of the iPoker Network, the network operated by Playtech. The poker world took a major hit in 2006 and again in 2011 after sites were shut down in the United States, but that hasn’t stopped this network from offering poker players a great selection of tournaments and cash games.

The poker client can be downloaded to your machine or mobile or played via Flash (sorry, Apple users), and from there you will see many poker-specific promotions, along with the full tournament schedule. Currently, the network offers a $30,000 guaranteed weekly event; this is a far cry from the millions being played for on other sites, but you can expect the play here to be much weaker.

Casino Game Selection

Live Dealer Games

Ladbrokes Live Casino

Ladbrokes offer their player a few of the table games as Live Dealer options; these games are a ton of fun and quickly became one of my favorite ways to play at online casinos. You can select from the dealer of your choice, then that person pops up in a webcam to play the game against you. For this service, the site uses Evolution Gaming, who is among the leaders in Live Dealer software.

You can play the following games via Live Dealer:

  • Baccarat
  • Casino Hold’em
  • Dream Catcher
  • Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • Three Card Poker
  • Ultimate Texas Hold’Em

Slots

With this many providers to choose from, you will be shocked to find out that there are 1000 different slot machines available in the Ladbrokes Casino lobby. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are still a ton of options for you; I applaud the casino for not clogging things up with too many choices. You will find some of the best-licensed content in any casino, including many names you will know from the entertainment world. Have a look at some of my favorite games which you can find at Ladbrokes:

  • Age of the Gods: Fate Sisters
  • Age of the Gods: Furious 4
  • Archer
  • Atlantis Queen
  • Batman & Catwoman Cash
  • Batman & Mr. Freeze Fortune
  • Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza
  • Captain Cannon’s Circus of Cash
  • Chippendales
  • Cinerama
  • Funky Fruits Farm
  • Halloween Fortune
  • Jungle Trouble

  • Sultan’s Fortune
  • Sultan’s Gold
  • Sunset Beach
  • Superman: The Movie

Table Games

Casual Games

Ladbrokes Casual Games

These games, also known as Specialty Games, appeal to an audience that is more of a social gambler than those who spend hours at the blackjack tables. Many of these games are super easy to play with huge jackpots but terrible odds for the player. If these games are of interest to yo, then you will find loads of great options at the site:

Promotions

Ladbrokes Promotions

Ladbrokes.com is packed full of promotions that range from general bonuses to game-specific offers. For the sake of this review, I am going to focus on a couple of the casino-only promotions that I think you should make a note of if you are considering being a player on this site.

While this isn’t the best bonus we have ever seen at this site, it still provides you with the chance to earn out some bonus dollars with your initial deposit.

Ladbrokes Adventure

I love this promotion, as it employs some of the strategy used by social gaming casinos to attract players. This promotion is based on earning coins, which you do when you complete challenges while playing the real money games across all the Ladbrokes products. As you complete challenges, you unlock different rewards which you can head to the reward center to redeem.

Everything about this promotion is excellent, from the way you complete challenges to the steady drip of prizing you can win by unlocking each level. I applaud Ladbrokes for taking their marketing to another level with this crossover promotion!

Banking

While there aren’t too many countries that can access the games at Ladbrokes, there is a wealth of options available to those who can make a deposit. Some of the e-wallet solutions offer instant withdrawal as well, so there is no waiting around for your money!

Comp Program

The Comp Program at Ladbrokes is the standard program offered by Playtech licensees. You earn points by playing real money casino games; 1 comp point is earned for every $10 wagered on the games. When you earn 100 points, you can redeem them for $1 in real money. It is important that you convert these points as soon as you have enough as they have an expiry date and you wouldn’t want to get caught without having been rewarded for your play.

VIP Program

The casino offers a very detailed VIP Program for its players; the 4-tiered program covers all the bases, and there is a lot of information about the program available for you to read. Here are some of the details of the program:

VIP Points are earned in the following way

  • 2 points for every £10 stake on Slots, Scratch cards, and Bingo
  • 1 point for every £10 stake for all other Casino games
  • 2.5 points for every £10 stake for Sports single bets
  • 3 points for every £10 stake for Sports multiple bets

The below table shows the overall VIP Point targets along with the minimum deposits that must be met to qualify for the VIP Programme each calendar month.

Level Deposits Points
Bronze £1,000 1,500
Silver £2,000 2,500
Gold £4,000 12,500
Platinum Invite Only Invite Only

I like that the casino has these levels broken down for you in plain sight; it is important to know where you stand regarding VIP status. When you get to each level, you receive a different set of rewards, all of which is outlined on the VIP page of the Ladbrokes website.

What is intriguing is the Platinum level, as that involves being sent to VIP events by the company. According to the site, this has included concert tickets, sporting events and other VIP events in the past. I love the idea of being rewarded with tangible goods, so this gives me more reason to strive for Platinum status.

Customer Service

I mentioned this earlier in the review, but it bears repeating: currently, Ladbrokes does not offer customer service 24 hours a day. This is truly disappointing, as it can’t cost them too much to have the extra hours covered by a skeleton staff. At any rate, if you are interested in reaching the casino for any issues you have, you can contact them via telephone, Live Chat, and email. Also, as they have land-based betting shops, if you happen to be near a location, you could always just walk in and ask about your account that way.

Would I Play at Ladbrokes?

Ever since I started in this business 20 years ago, the Ladbrokes name has been front and center, whether because of their online offering or the fact that they have been sponsoring live European sports for as far back as I can remember. For that reason alone, I have always had an affinity for the site, even though I live in a country that is on the restricted list. However, if you are lucky enough to live in a country that has access to the site for real money, then I suggest you give them a try. You won’t find a site more secure for your funds, and their casino platform provides tons of great content and so many games that you will never get bored. Add in sports betting, poker, and bingo, and you have yourself a full suite of games available to you with one single account.

If you do play on Ladbrokes, I would love your feedback; we always want the most up to date, honest information from our players so we can keep this review fresh for the next reader.
